If you ask me indoor parks are a neccesary evil (I like street skating, and don't like paying to skate). This one though is a little absurd. For one thing, their is a "parents lounge" with a sign saying if an under-18 goes they may be banned from the park. This was a little odd and somewhat condescending, but it seemed small enough to ignore.

Then I got to the sign at the entrance to the actual park which is surrounded by a hallway with a payment desk, food and drink machines and restrooms. The sign said, "No food and drink in park or lose skating privileges". This bugged me for two reasons:

Should a skatepark have this many threats?

Should they really think people would care that much if they got banned from some shitty money grabbing indoor park?

But, I decided it was better than the city of West Bloomfield's park, which had a large rule list (which had some absurd rules, but I won't talk about it right now).

Howver, I saved the most absurd part for last: Outside the actual park (the whole building had a concrete floor for skating) they had signs saying "No skating in this area". No skating in a skatepark? That's lame and idiotic. Needless to say I ignored the sign. No one noticed.
Relk Recorder

Will factions be a fact of skating?

Rap. That music has such horrible concepts in and yet, it's community, the so-called hip-hop community constantly gets more people in it. Now it's invading skating. Look at Supra. Gold, shiny, fancy writing. The greed aspect of rap. Look at Transworld's statement that not buying proboards is not supporting skating. The people who want skateboard to become a part of rap are one group. Let's look at the other group. The people who present an extremist punk view of skating (like the band NOFX, which I like). They are so extreme, that it's not that workable. And then we have people in between. Those are most people, I believe. At the rate things are going skating will break into little tiny factions. Do we want this? I say no factions.
Relk Recorder
